I recall hearing Glenn Campbell studied for awhile. Probably in the seventies or the eighties, some of his music seemed to reflect that for awhile during that time period.

Michael,
The "Christy Love" chick is Teresa Graves mentioned above in a post. She had an article with pic in the Awake, probably in the eighties.

Evil Men/silentlambs
by silentlambs inthis was a post i made six months ago, some of you may have missed it.
i have watched many responses from those within the organization that endeavor to defend the current watchtower policy toward pedophiles.
the most common response seems to be that any accused child molester is reported to the watchtower legal department and then reported to local authorities with cooperation from the local elders.

Thinker brought up an interesting question yesterday. Never being a JW, he asked if they ever call special meetings in addition to the regular five weekly. I said, typically only if there is a Bethelite visiting, sometimes they will call a special Saturday program.
I asked why he wanted to know, he replied that perhaps congregations would call a special meeting the night of the Dateline airing in order to keep Witnesses from watching it.
I thought about it for a minute and told him that they were audacious enough to simply tell the publishers that there was to be an airing of apostate information on Dateline and then warn them not to watch it. That would probably be enough to keep most publishers from watching it.
I hope that would not be the case. I hope that most JW's will be riveted to their tv's that night! This needs to get all the exposure possible, especially within the active ranks!

ExJW's Make Better Lovers?
by COMF ini don't mean in general, i mean for exjw's... is there a noticable advantage to pairing with someone with the same background?
i'd like to read your thoughts and experiences on this subject.. i've been romantically involved few times, since "the light got brighter" for me about the organization, with people who didn't know anything about jw's before meeting me.
one of them viewed my exjw activity as a bit obsessive but okay as long as she got to obsess on her favorite obesssions, too.

Comf,
Excellent question. And one that all of us who have been JW's and been seriously affected and are single will have to face at some point.
Before I met Thinker, I got into a serious relationship with a non JW. He showed absolutely no interest in the JW thing. He basically said, "so it's in the past, forget about it. Move on. Let it go." He had no clue how it was going to affect my future and my emotions, and really didn't care. Red flags started going up. I broke it off.
I tend to be a very frank person. I also knew that my background was going to affect my life, whether I wanted it to or not. That relationship was in the very beginning stages of my leaving, I hadn't even da'ed myself yet.
When I met Thinker, I informed him of my background very early on. I also explained, that when I da'ed myself what the results would be. This began his journey of researching every bit of information on JW's that he could find. IMO, he has the best understanding of the JW mindset of any worldly person I know. I can never express how much this means to me. Through all the ups and downs he is there emotionally and intellectually with regards to the effect the religion has had in my life!!
It may be different for others but for me it was important that my partner make an effort to "get it".
BTW, Thinker introduced me to the Prophet, and the passage you quoted is one of my all time favorites from that book.
The most important thing in a relationship, is communication and deep love and comittment. IMO, when you have this sexual ecstasy is a natural follow up.
And yes the neighbors definitely need a cigarette Comf!

LaDonna,
Been there done that, got the t-shirt. When I think about all the sacrifices over the years that I made, and the thankless spirit that was shown, it irritates me. What a waste of my good years!

Welcome to the board Buddah!
How long ago were you at the farm? My brother is there currently with his wife. I figure he is a big-wig, he is a very high achiever!
He and his wife have been there for at least three years maybe more.
Last I heard, he was over moving people from room to room and office to office.

BEW's ..........Irrational Thoughts
by LadyBug ini have been having some pretty irrational thoughts lately.. its only been 3 months since we decided it is not the "truth".
but sometimes i think we (my family) would have been better off if we had stayed inactive witnesses.
the strain affects the whole family.. sometimes it feels like my whole world has fallen apart.

BEW,
So glad you shared!! I know the feeling. Just had a long talk with my mother (still a very active witness) last week. And it panicked me. She used circular argumentation and other cult tactics. I think I am very well grounded with my attitude toward the Society. But sometimes, when you talk to a witness, it messes with your head. Thank God, I have Thinker to tell me I am not losing my mind. I am amazed that I didn't lose it in the thirty-eight odd years I was in. Many times I thought I was. Now in retrospect I know why. Because their lack of reasonableness is crazy, and when you are surrounded by it and you have some ability to think logically, you are very alone!!
Keep your chin up, it does get better.
Hugs,

Claudia,
Interestingly enough, my father used to use that scripture in the New Testament that says something like "and God will finish your training". It is in 1Peter 5:10. He used it to show how being in the org. was the best way of life.
Somehow, I don't think having my own cleaning business reflects where I could have been in life by now with more education!
